This month Amanda Riguax has her two year anniversary with reFORM.  We’re spotlighting Amanda because of the improvements she has made and the constant positive attitude she has toward the work we do with her.  She is currently doing both Pilates and Gyrotonic.  For two years she and her husband Pierre have been doing weekly Gyrotonic duos. Not only is that a great fitness feat but we give kudos to their marriage that they can share that aspect of life together and stick to it.  They are a pleasure to work with.  Over the last two years Amanda has also done private sessions in Pilates.  She took the “Getting Independent” workshop in December and is currently working out independently on the equipment with another client buddy.   She’s also attending the new reformer class on Tuesday evenings, which means she’s set to slay the April Challenge.
Amanda demonstrates an innate curiosity that powers her sessions.  She is fascinated by the systems as well as the discovery of the choices she can make when moving.  Her work ethic and humor inspire us as her teachers.
Amanda says this about her experience at reFORM:
“It took me a while to finally have the courage to try Pilates – I guess because I was nervous I was not a ballerina,  rather a bull in a china shop.  With my (not-yet) husband ‘s encouragement, I tried reFORM Pilates as the studio also had Gyrotonic and he wanted to try it.  Two years later we are now attending classes weekly.  It’s been amazing to see how our flexibility has improved as well as our overall body self awareness.
Personally, this is the most balanced I’ve ever felt both mentally and physically and it pushes me to learn more about Pilates and Gyro. Days that I drag myself out of bed to attend an AM session, I feel have an extra boost in my step. Knowing I have an afternoon session, makes the 9 to 5 work humdrum go quicker.
Right now I’ve been enjoying small personal victories and those ah-ha moments –  finally getting over my fear to try tendon stretch, doing teaser without hulking my way thru it or realizing my abs should be engaged doing a lot of the gyro exercises.
Overall, my health goal is to be mentally and physically balanced.  I also want to be able to sustain my health for the long haul and I feel that Pilates and Gyro will make it possible. On the side, I found that Pilates has complemented my other activities, like cycling and running, etc.  I am very grateful to have discovered reFORM and that over time, it has also became more than just a place to work out but a community.”
