Lucy Yim

Lucy’s curiosity for movement is what led her to the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM®. Her desire for a deep understanding of the geometry of the body is what propelled the start of her practice. What she found was a profound system that promoted a fully expressive, uninhibited, dynamically strong body and spirit. As someone with the desire to see the world more in their bodies and in themselves, Lucy became an instructor. As a teacher, Lucy’s main goal is to get her students moving from strength and connectivity and moving with breath, ease and clarity. A balance of function and expression and deep knowledge of the body is worked towards together with the student, as a team. GYROTONIC® is a holistic somatic movement practice. Lucy honors this by cultivating a mindful, compassionate and courageous body in her students. Imagery is often used to guide the movement to offer an intuitive and insightful way into experiencing the self. Lucy holds a BA in Liberal Studies from Sarah Lawrence College. Lucy is a Certified Movement Analyst from the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies where after she went to work as a trainer for James Fowler Physical Therapy(NYC). Lucy studied under Emma Kinsgston and is always furthering her education. She is a GYROKINESIS® Instructor and is certified on the Archway and Gyrotoner. Lucy has taken specialized courses for the Hands and Feet, a Hip Replacement Workshop with Hilary Cartwright and Gyrotonic for Dancers. Lucy is a dancer and choreographer who studies the Alexander Technique, yoga, personal training, kettlebells, and contemporary art.

"...passionate teaching, like all teaching, is necessarily a social process, not just an individual performance. It is grounded in the relationship between teacher and student. It aims at a goal outside itself-engaged, intense learning that changes the course of lives and helps them realize their potential"
