GYROKINESIS®/GYROTONIC® Warmup

For Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis classes, we have a suggested sequence of warmup exercises. This sequence, called “The Awakening of the Senses,” prepares the mind and body for the most effective workout. Breathwork Class, self-massage and shaking remove layers of tension that interfere with our natural movement. We finish the warmup relaxed and alert, more focused and energized.

A Gyrokinesis warmup efficiently organizes the chakras, setting us up for a deeply satisfying Gyrotonic Class session. 

A Gyrokinesis warmup awakens physical and mental strength. It restores vitality and prepares us for a transformative workout.

The warmup usually begins with imagery to help with breathing technique. Attention to Gyrotonic breathing, before adding any movement, organizes the nervous system and establishes presence. Quality breathing is a touchstone to return to throughout our warmup and workout. Give your body a chance to feel the benefits of Gyrotonic breathing, and you can enjoy how the breath flows with a Gyrotonic Class.

Keeping an energizing Gyrotonic breathing pattern, we use our hands to stimulate our muscles, joints, organs and lymph. The sequence of self-massage followed in Gyrokinesis classes is designed to efficiently wake up and balance the whole body. The hands and feet receive special attention, as they play an important role in many Gyrokinesis movements. Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis classes involve coordination of the eyes and body, so the warmup includes exercises to stimulate our vision. Similar attention to the ears improves balance and alertness. You don’t have to be warming up for Gyrotonic or Gyrokinesis classes to do the Awakening of the Senses. It’s a great way to tune up for almost any physical activity.
