I’ve been seeing Andrea Lane for acupuncture for eight months, and it has become an important and effective part of my self-care regimen.

When I first started seeing Andrea, my main concerns were my digestion and energy level.  A medication that I take affects both of these areas, and on a trip to Europe last year my digestion got particularly out of whack and was recovering quite slowly.

I’ve been seeing Andrea every one to three weeks.  In our sessions, she rarely actually puts needles in me.  The traditional Japanese medicine that she prefers employs many other techniques to balance the body’s systems. My favorite involves a large needle that she holds close to the point on my body she’s working with, then pulls it away quickly.  It seems to pull energy through a long, winding, and complicated pathway through my body, and has effects very far away from where she’s working!  As a bodyworker, I find these sensations fascinating.

For my part, Andrea had some suggestions about diet and sleep that were not too difficult for me to execute.

Quite quickly, I experienced results.  After our second session, I had what Andrea had described as “the perfect Chinese poop.”  I’ll let her give you the details.

My digestion and sleep have both improved dramatically.  Andrea has helped me with several new issues I’ve brought to her since we first started.  I push myself pretty hard with my workouts, and sometimes I get hurt.  Andrea has been extremely helpful for releasing muscle tension and recovering quickly from injuries.  My growing experience of being able to recover quickly is profoundly helpful in avoiding the mental pitfalls that accompany (and prolong) pain.

Andrea particularly excels at quieting my race brain.  My injuries, like most problems in my life, seem to happen when my head isn’t in harmony with what I’m doing.  I always leave our sessions feeling more present for the world around me.

I’d had acupuncture before seeing Andrea, and I’d found the sessions relaxing, but the results were too subtle for me to appreciate them.  Now I’m hooked!

Beginning in December, Andrea will offer community acupuncture sessions at reFORM.  Sign up on our workshops page, or via our front desk.
